Sound. What was that? Foot steps. No….to light to be footsteps. Paws perhaps? The Water dweller flicked her narrow, slitted ears, sharp, sea green eyes turning towards the source of the noise. She was a younger Noka, and a bright sea green colour, with only small flecks of white, and shades of blue dotting her fur. Her finned tail lifted, and she hissed, standing before her small clutch, half buried in the far corner Sands of the Hatching Grounds. If only there had been water, it would be an ideal place. But close to the moisture rich rock walls was enough.
Calm yourself child, it is only I. The Uunik Aura came into view, her paws treading softly on the sand, creating the steps the water dweller had heard. She relaxed, and lay beside her clutch protectively.
Dear Uunik, why must my kits be kept here for their hatching? Could they not have stayed by the water’s edge? She asked sadly, placing a paw on top of one egg, roughly half the size of a basketball. They were divided into four different hues, for each of the species, although they differed slightly, each as unique as its shading would allow.
They are not all yours, my dear, as you well know. Ronite, you were the only mother willing to give up her children, and bring those of the other willing mothers here to Openland to help renew the old alliance. Be proud of your kits, for what they represent, and for what they can do. Aura answered, settling down on her haunches next to Ronite, looking at the eggs.
Soon. Hatching approaches. They will break free of their fragile prisons, and know the world of Openland as the Noka have not for many turns, whether they Impress or not. Ronite murmured softly, touching her nose to the nearest one. It was one of hers, and warm to the touch.
Yes, soon. Aura replied, and turned her emerald orbs, flecked with blue, on the half hidden eggs. The eggs that were the first to be offered to the Dragonriders, under the hopes that the Nokariders would be reformed, since the time when the volcano was whole.

Cari wandered onto the sands, Miran, Gina, and Rican all swarming after her. "Hello Aura!" She said, smiling, before giving a respectful curtsey to Ronite. I am Carissa, Cari, Trainer at Abuton Weyr. She explained.
---------
Tasia, for some reason, found herself on the sands as well. "Why are we here?" She asked, blinking. Kita gave a chirp with an echoing question in it.
Chapeth, however, just looked around with interest. It had been quite a while since she had last been here, on the heated ground.

A little shake came from the egg that Ronite touched, and she jumped back, startled and excited. My kit yearns for freedom! They are hatching, Uunik!. She said loudly and happily, stirring up sand as she raced about the clutch nosing the closest as she passed. They were ready.
Calm down, child. You'll burry them in sand. Aura said, humored by her reaction. She turned her head upwards, and benched her muscles, spreading her wings and pushing herself towards the large opening typically reserved for dragons, abuto, and flitts. When she reached the lip, she yowled loudly, multiple times, alerting the weyr.
The Noka Clutch hatches. Candidates to the Sands. Aura called out mentally afterward, adding a little reminder that they could come as they were. THere was no need for discomfort on the hot sands.
She glided back inside, landing next to Ronite, who by now was worried for the kits. Will the candidates be good to them, and teach them well? She asked, flicking her finned tail across the sand.
They will be fine, Ronite.Aura comforted the new mother, staring at the land entrence with a calm gaze. The kits would be fine.

Aura looked over, mewing gently in welcome, although Ronite just looked anxious as Cari and Tasia arrived.
Hello Trainer Cari. This is the new mother, Ronite. Most of these eggs are hers.
The water dweller bobbed her head, staring distrustingly at Cari and her flitts. Hello to you as well, Tasia.

"Are they hatching?" Cari asked, startled, when the egg moved. The three flitts, in unison, rose up into the stands, perching on a ledge with a humming noise. Funny... They were humming for the Nokas.
Tasia bowed to the water dweller, smiling. "It is an honor to be able to witness this. It is an even greater honor to be able to speak to the mother of the majority of the eggs." She said. Chapeth crooned a greeting, watching as Kita went up to join the other flitts.

Kiriana was by the Weyr when she heard there was to be a hatching, so she stayed. "Greetings, Trainer Cari!" she called out recognizing her. "What a lovely clutch!" she said with amusement and to no one in particuliar.

Wild Abuto joined the throng of fire lizards as they had during the dragon hatching, circling like they would in a Dance, and singing out in the same tone. Wild fire lizards joined the abuto, humming. Suddenly Aura turned her head, slightly alarmed.
They come.
'They' turned out to be a hrong of Nokas, looking slightly perplexed. The Flyers amung them went to join the abuto and fire lizards, purring deep in their chests to harmonize with them. The diggers settled themselves at the edges of the sand, purring in their gravely, deep voices. The Landwalkers and Water dwellers spaced themselves out in a ring around the clutch, leaving room for the candidates. They purred in a mixture of voices, landwalkers wildly, while the water dwellers purred watery, and sweet. Aura joined in, her melodical voice rising high as she retreated into the ring, leaving Ronite to tend to the eggs.
The morther water dweller hardly noticed Tasia's words, fretting as she was. She kept wanting to nose the eggs, check if they were alright.

"What's going on?" Kiriana asked only fimiliar with dragon and fire-lizard hatchings. Where were the candidates? The Noka, she saw them all now with looks of various types. They were so different looking from one another.

"Hi." Cari said, glancing briefly at Kiriana. She was a bit caught up with the hatching and all that.

Emilia hurried up to the others, staring at the eggs with interest.
Emiliamine, please don't run! Aurath called after her, waddling up behind her. It had been awhile since she was on the warm sands. It was a strange feeling to be back.
I'm sorry. But I didn't want to be late! she apologized to her dragon, continuing to stare at the eggs.
Aurath crooned quietly to her Mine before joining her, glancing over the eggs with contentment.

The Noka on the sand all raised their head, their purrs rising higher as a first egg rocked violently, little cracks slpintering down it's soft, green-blue surface. Ronite mewed softly to it, broadcasting her love and encouragement. The Egg shook harder, and the purrs, whistles, humms and croons grew. The wheeling Noka, Abuto and fire lizards above sped their flight.
Suddenly, with a hardly audible crack amognst the harmonized sounds, the egg slpit apart equally. Instantly Ronite backed into the circle, if reluctantly, and joined the Noka as they mewed as one to welcome the little Noka into the world, then returned to purring. Oh, how proud Ronite was, for it was one of her kits that had hatched.
The kit now standing on the hot sand, blearily blinking dark green eyes, was a proud male water dweller. His fur was damp, but it was easily seen as a deep, navy blue, streaked with dark green, and sudden splashes of white. He looked around, rather surprised that he was free of his egg, after so long a while.

The sound of clumsy feet became apparent as Kaila whirled onto the sands, Serteth following just as rapidly and Eedath cautiosly. She screeched to a stop and showered sand as she stared at the eggs, mouth formed into an 'oh' as she saw them and the other Nokas. "Wow..." she finally said. "What /are/ they?" Sasha, who had arrived moments earlier and was accompanied by her fair, threw Kaila a slightly distasteful look. "They /can/ understand you..." Kaila turned beet red, realizing her question had seemed a trifle disgusted. "Sorry," she apologized to Aura, rapidly turning red to white and back again. Sasha ignored the Weyrling, turning to her older -and nicer- brother Filion, who grinned in return, stroking his Heliotrope Flick.
((Yes....I dragged three chars here. I know I want Kaila and Filion to Impress, but Sasha doesn't have to. She's just there if you've got a spare one left over; I'm fine with her /not/ Impressing.))

We are the Noka child. Come closer, all of you. There is a kit waiting, and he cannot see you behind our ranks. Aura broke in, her mental tone as light and cool as ever. A hint of excitement, coursed through her thoughts, as did every creature gathered to sing.

Kaila drew in closer, a feeling of apprehension overcoming her. Sasha hung back. She wasn't exactly a Candidate, and more had come to watch....but all the same, she did have a faint wish for one. Filion seemed to have two left feet, and as he drew forward, fell facefirst onto the ground. Gaggin, he pulled himself up, as Sasha snickered.

Emilia gaped in awe. The first Noka kit had hatched, and it was a water-dweller. She read some things about it.
Isn't it beautiful?
Aurath nodded. It is. I wonder who it'll choose.
