The runner slowed to a crawl as it trotted into the wayer, looking up at the sky, and whinnying fearfully as it sighted a dragon.
"Hush..." Said its rider, a young lady dressed in a bright yellow and green sundress, with a green and yellow slim belt to match. The little nose of an otter poked through her curtain of dark hair, chittering excitedly as it saw the dragon. The lady smiled, and srtoked her sleak head, agreeing. Attatched to the saddle were her belongings, done up neatly in little parcels. The brown runner refused to go farther into the weyrbowl, even when she nudged it gently with her heels. With a sigh, she steered it along the rocky volcanic wall, and headed towards the lower caverns openings, half hidden in the shadows of the weyrbowl wall.
'Well, at least I won't be goggled at.' Nastaran thought, looking on the bright side.

"Hello, there," a voice called from said shadows. Xanthe emerged, Mar and Sanio at her heels. The Flyer peered out, keeping himself slightly behind his human, and the canine sat, panting happily. The girl held her ever-present staff, and was twirling it absentmindedly. "Are you new?"

A bright smile broke across Nastaran's features. "Why, yes, actually, I am. I got got here." She haltered her mounth, and gestured to the saddlebags that held her belongings. Zarifa sniffed the air, and climbed a bit down her keepers front to view the strange creature that was Sanio.

Sanio hid behind Xanthe again. Mine... he said, nervously. "Oh, hush." Is it going to eat me..? "No. It is not going to eat you." Okay... Xanthe looked back at Nastaran. "I'm sorry- he's a little shy. I'm Xanthe." She held out her hand in greeting.

Nastaran gripped her hand. "I'm Nastaran, but call me Tara. What is that creature there behind you?" She answered and asked, looking down at Sanio with interest. He remembled somethinhg she'd seen in passing once in Rintha forest. Zarifa chittered a question, and finally jumped from her shoulders and onto the saddle prong, straining to get a better view of Sanio.
"This is Zarifa, the otter." She explained, and nodded at the otter.

Xanthe smiled. "Nice to meet you, Tara, and you, Zarifa, and you, the apparently unnamed runnerbeast. Who, Sanio? Oh. He's a Noka- it's perfectly understandable you haven't seen one before. They're fairly uncommon. Oh, and this is Mar," she added, gesturing to the canine, who thumped her tail. "Welcome to the Weyr."

Tara laughed. "Hello, Sanio, and Mar. This is not my beast, so I don't know its name." She thumped the runners side affectionatly, and it neighed and tossed its head. Zarifa dropped to the ground, and waddled towards Sanio. If one thing could be said about otters, they're very curious creatures.

With a nervous yip, Sanio backed up. Mar, however, got up and rushed forward, sniffing the otter with her tail wagging in excitement. "Mar," Xanthe said warningly. "Don't scare her." She again looked back to Tara. "Are you a Candidate- no, you couldn't be if a dragon didn't give you a ride. Is there anything I can help you with?"

Zarifa danced around Mar quickly, making yipping sounds. The canine wanted to play! He forgot Sanio, and decided to play with Mar, nipping at her paws. Tara looked indigant, as she drew her hand away, and sat crossways in her saddle.
"I am a candidate. I simply chose to come by runner, since it's not far from Murva to here, and yes, there's something you could help with. Where must I go to deposit my things, and grab a bite to eat?"

Mar yipped excitedly and danced around in circles, careful not to squish the little otter.
Xanthe smiled. "Oh, well, all right. Come on, I'll show you where to go."

Zarifa suddenly jumped up and held onto Mar's tail, squeeling happily as she soared through the air.
"wait one moment, another thing. Where are the runners stabled?" Tara cut in, leaping down lightly from her saddle, and flipping the reins over the runners head to lead it.

Mar yelped gleefully and spun in circles. Had she been human, she would have been yelling "WHEEEEEEEEEEEE!" As it was, she wasn't capable of yelling "WHEEEEEEEEE!" so she didn't.
"I'll show you!"

Zarifa squeeled louder, and her grip slipped, sending her flying across the weyrbowl like a ball.
"Thank you, Xanthe" Tara bowed her head in thanks, and stared on as the otter flew away through the air, tumbling head over tail.

Xanthe's hand flashed out and she caught the otter by the scruff of the kneck and handed her solemnly back to Tara. "Here's your otter," she said gravely, then grinned. "Mar, don't kill Zarifa, okay?" She jerked her head to the side. "Let's go."

"Thank you." Taqra repeated, holding the exhilerated otter in the crook of an arm, and leading the runner with the other.
"You should be more careful, Zaffy." She crooned to Zarifa, and she chittered back in a soft tone, draping her long tail over her arm.
