Mar whined, sad that Zarifa was no longer playing with her. Xanthe clicked her tongue at the canine warningly. "No, Mar. No whining. Anyway, this way, Tara."

Tara followed Zanthe, holding the hand that had held Zarifa out to Mar. The otter had climbed back onto her shoulders, and was hiding inside her hair again.

((Xanthe, you mean.))
"Here's the paddock," Xanthe said brightly, pointing it out to her. "That's where you can leave your beast."

ooc// Yes....I'm always putting z for x, and x for z....
bic// Tara nodded, and took her runner in, speaking briefly to the beastmaster before coming out again, Zarifa now poking her head out an looking happy.
"He'll take care of the runner until Murva sends someone up for it. He seemed very interested in Zarifa." She put a hand on the otters head.

"Well, most people have never seen an otter before," Xanthe said reasonably. "I've only seen one because I've been sent on assignment near where they live. Haven't seen one in captivity, though, and especially not as a pet. They get into everything, I understand. In any case, let's go."

Tara shrugged and followed, hefting her saddlebags over her opposite shoulder, so they wouldn't land on Zarifa. "She does get into things, but she's smart, unlike some creatures I know of." Her face soured for a moment as she thought of the brats at Murva. Zarifa, bored of seeing everything from her shoulder, leapt off and ran for the lake, glimmering across the weyrbowl.

"Human or another variety of beast?" Xanthe asked dryly, amused. "I myself have had to deal with... some... rather unsavory and... erm... unintelligent characters. They seemed to think it was funny to throw things at the Harper." She smirked. "I am very glad that it was a bunch of boys. They ended up quite embarassed. I suppose it wasn't often they were beaten up by a small girl."

Tara smiled. "Same sort of thing, and I believe they ffelt the same, when they returned home all bruised and sore." She laughed, and looked over in time to see the otter slipping smoothly into the lake with hardly a ripple, surfacing a few moments later quite a ways oout, and belly up.

Xanthe grinned. "One of them actually cried. I couldn't believe it. A big boy like him. Of course, I did hit him especially hard because of all of them he was the most annoying... Hm. I think his nose should probably be the right shape by now. Oh, but I'm just bragging. This way."

Tara laughed again as she followed Xanthe, finding the girl quite amusing. "Are you a candidate as well?" She asked, after her laughter had died down.

"Yup," Xanthe affirmed, again idly twirling her staff in a graceful arc over her head. "I came to see if I could Impress a dragon and ended up bonding to Sanio." She gazed affectionately down at the Flyer, who was trotting at her side, looking curiously at them. Mar was trying to catch up, but kept getting distracted by shiny objects.

Zarifa chittered from the lake to Mar, inviting her to play again. He slapped his forepaws against the surface to get her attention. "I've seen a creature like Sanio before, in Rintha, but it was much larger, an dlooked a bit different. What are they again?"

Mar yipped excitedly, turned around, and leapt in, generating a huge splash. Xanthe sighed, shaking her head. "Just like a canine, isn't it? Leap joyfully into any outside body of water but fight like a mad thing against anything that could be called a bath. They're Nokas."

"I know. It's the same with Zarifa. She hates having baths inside. What exactly are Nokas?" Tara looked down at the little Flyer padding after Xanthe, taking in his gracfull looks, his wings, and his apparant similarities to a feline.

"Hm? Well, they're really just another type of animal, I'd say, and actually rather like dragons if you think about it. They come in several different types, all adapted for different enviroments. Landwalkers, Swimmers, Diggers, Sanio's a Flyer- they're very interesting. Some of them have... telekinetic powers, I believe."
