General: These creatures were discovered in an isolated, small valley near Lodicus Hold. They lived within the deep caves surrounding that region, leaving no wonder why they weren’t found sooner. Named after the Weyr by the small girl who first found them, they were first thought to be imaginary.
Abuto- Remains the same singular and plural.
One thing that has been discovered about them is that they completely hate water. They can neither swim nor float.
Appearance: They look similar to a fire lizard or small dragon in form. They have long bodies, but legs that are thick and strong. Hind legs are slightly larger than fore, due to the fact they need stronger thrust than most four legged flyers to lift their bulk. Ears are similar in shape to a small feline, and just as acute. They have two sets of wings, both feathered. The second pair is locate just behind the first, and is slightly longer than the foremost set. Tail feathers grow from near their tail tips, medium sized. A line of jagged, flame like stripes flow down the length of their spines, purely black in color. They have a dense covering of light weight scales, which don’t hinder them while air born. When they are first born, they’re about the size of a human fist, but they quickly grow. Once fully grown, they range in size from a large domesticated feline, to a medium-large sized canine. Young children have been known to ride the largest for short periods of time on both the ground and air.
Maturity: Abuto cannot fly for 1 sevenday, due to fact that their wings must dry. As soon as they Impress, they can walk, and run slightly. Abuto are birthed, rather than hatched. The parents remain with their children until they are half grown. The parents usually remain with their children until they are half grown.
Female Abuto can mate at a turn and a half of age, on average, and are pregnant for 3 sevendays. After the first pregnancy, they can mate once a Turn, and can have up to 4 children each time. When they mate, it’s an elegant dance through both the air, and across the ground, only vaguely similar to a game of hide-and-seek. To watch it is a beautiful experience, for both the females and males pour all their talents and elegance into the mating ritual.
Mating Dance: Firstly, when a female Abuto rises to Dance, they must blood a fresh kill. Like dragons, they take down a runner. Her bonded can easily tell her not to gorge. When Abuto females Dance, they can isolate their emotions so they don’t affect their bonded, and they do not loose themselves in their emotions. Depending on her size, a dancing female usually only takes down one animal to blood, and even then the animal itself depends on size. After blooding, the female rises into the air, and calls out to the males. This is when the three phases of an Abuto Dance starts.
First Phase: The Initial Dance
The Initial Dance is the time right when the males answer the female’s call. Singing with differently pitched whistles, the males converge near her and wait for her first move. She’ll take them through different arial maneuvers. The males must converge on each other, with the highest rank at the front of the group. Usually the males form a ‘v’ pattern. Their whistling song changes as the female varies her answer. The males follow her through her different maneuvers as best as they can, with as much grace, beauty, and skill that they can muster together. They must stay as a group, or else the female can reject them, and stop her dance. Sometimes, a female can insist they break formation to perform individual Dances. If this happens, the males can jockey for position to dance with the female. It’s rare for this to happen, but young, first time Dancing females will sometimes do this. Also something a young, first time Dancer might do is send the Initial Dance to the ground, where the dancing female runs a pattern, sometimes gliding or leaping, and insists that her suitors still follow and imitate.
Second Phase: The Hide-and-Seek game
After the Initial Dance, the dancing female can suddenly break away, and start the Hide-and-Seek phase. The males can now break formation, and pursue her in their own way. During this time, the female can escape her suitors, hide out, rest, and eat until she is ready to start the next phase, or she can move to another hiding spot. This phase can last the longest, as the female can hide as long as she wants, and it can go the farthest. During this phase, the males can search for miles to find the Dancing females, expanding the Dance radius until they return to the center again. They’ll only far for a few hours when they’re expanding the Dance area. This phase ends when a male suitor finds her, and drives her back into the sky.
Third Phase: The Trapping
Once the game is over, the suitors become proposed Trappers. The Trap the female, a male must lock claws with her, start a dive, and pull out of it to glide gently to earth, where they trot on just their hind legs until they run out of momentum. This can be repeated multiple times as the female can easily break free. When a Trapper finaly Traps the Dancing female, the other Trappers, now suitors again, depart back to their bondeds or their clans, if they’re wild. The now Trapped female and her successful suitor fly to a high height, and start the final mating dive, much as a fire lizard or dragon would.
Intelligence: Their intelligence is equal to a Fire lizard’s, though their thoughts are more pronounced than their emotions. This makes simple conversations easy with fully-grown and trained Abuto. Their size and strength combined with this intelligence makes them hardy workers and great pets. They can also tell if someone means harm to their keeper, and will react on that feeling.
Colors: They come in the same colours as the dragons. They seem to have a connection with them, however the commonality is difficult to discern. Females who are able to Birth can birth any rank, any colour. Lapis Lazuli, however, can only birth other Lapis Lazuli. To add, any Dance pair ups are only the more common pairings. Depending on size, a male can Dance any female.

Other: Their scales have an odd sandy feel, and are rough to the touch. It is believed these abuto do not itch as much as they grow because of this. They're happy, energetic abuto, and love to swim as much as Oceans, though without as much speed and grace. They love nothing better than stretching out on a sandy beach, and soaking up some sun. They can become serious when they want to, but usually keep a sarcastic, excited tone for the sake of easing the tension. They're not as energetic as Tabby's though. Sands impress to people with similar qualities.

Lapis Lazuli: Lowest Low Rank
Gender Information: Female and impress to females
Size: Small feline
Color: Similar to Sparks, though blue and not even close to a Sparks darker colour. They have marvelous, lustrous scales of deep blue, flecked with hardly discernable bits of yellow. Often are shaded with lighter hues, and slightly larger yellow flecks.
Clutch: 1 child. They only birth other Lapis Lazuli
Other: They are sweet, gentle abuto, with a loving and caring attitude. They move with such grace they could be a queen, but for their size. Prized for their more developed telekinetic capabilities, Lapis Lazuli impress to people with broad horizons, an understanding nature, and a calm, nominal point of view. They and their bondeds are often consulted on matters of importance by the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader, just like their larger, dragon counterparts. Lapis Lazuli dance less than any other female. This means that though they are much valued, they are few in number.
