Nira waited once more for the Weyrlings, accompanied by Foreths rider. The green had obliged to teach the young dragons again, who by now were much larger, their shoulders higher than their bondeds heads, though that wasn’t the case for the smaller ones. Fire stone sacks were piled high next to a stack of riding straps, these ones primed and ready.
“Today you will have your first flight with your dragon, see if they can chew, and receive your own riding straps.” She explained when they had assembled.
“First, the straps. Like last lesson, please choose straps that fit snugly around your dragon. Foreth is here again, so you may ask her or her rider for assistance.” She gave a nod to the green rider, and then continued. “The straps you choose now will be yours until your dragon grows out of them, so check them over carefully and take good care of them.” When she didn’t speak further, a few weyrlings approached, sifting through the straps for ones that would fit. After the rustling and brief arguments had subsided, and the old straps were set away and the new in place, Foreth began the wing exercises as they did the last lesson, but this time more rigorous. Nira continued.
“Now, mount your dragons. They should offer a leg up or bend down low so you can climb up easily. Make sure your legs are snug in the straps. Even the best rider could slip from their dragon if they’re not were their straps, remember that. Maren is here if you have any questions or need help.” Maren strode amongst the weyrlings, correcting any mistakes and helping out where there was trouble. When she was certain everyone was safely strapped in, she mounted Foreth, strapping herself in.
“We’re going to have a ground launch today. It’s harder than dropping from the shelf, but essential to strengthen your dragons’ legs.” Maren explained, as Foreth tensed beneath her. “We’re only going for a short ways, so you’re expected to practice flight on your own, but always with friend nearby so they can get help if need be. Now, get ready.” Foreth pushed herself free of the earth, her wings snapping open as she struggled for height. It was a take off that needed power and will. She circled above until all the weyrlings had made it into the air, then lead them on the same gentle maneuvers as Foreth had with the dragons. After, she lead them though a few trickier ones, then had them land.
“Good effort. You’re all getting better.” Maren said, slipping down her greens side to join Nira on the ground again. The trainer nodded her agreement.
“Now it’s time for the firestone. We’ve kept up the tradition, though Thread has not fallen for many a turn. Since many of you have dragons the likes of which we’ve never seen before, we’re not sure which can clutch, and which can chew. It’s trial and error.” She walked over to the sacks, beckoning them forward. She handed each weyrling a sack, then had Maren joined her. Foreth chewed the firerock her rider gave her, then waited a few moments before belting out a tongue of flame into the sky.
“Everyone try. Be warned, young dragons. You have to keep your tongue out of the way.” She chuckled slightly as she said this.
She watched them closely, while Maren ran amongst them again, correcting the amount people were giving their bondeds. The flames the young dragons managed were rather small and useless, but it was a good start.
“That’s it for today. Remember to practice. There’s one lesson left, and that will be your test lesson. Pratice!” Nira stated loudly when everyone was out of firestone.
Ooc// Everyone must try to have their dragon flame. Dragons that have male and female next to them mean that though the females might clutch, they can still flame. Ones that have nothing next to them mean they only have one gender, and they flame.
