Today, you'll be learning the intricacies of flying Between. Each of you will be assigned to a rider. Each of them has volunteered to teach you, so please don't give them a hard time." Maren called to the Weyrlings, a sheaf of paper in her one hand. By now, all the dragons were nearly full grown, and each of them brought hope to the future. A few riders had arranged themselves and their dragons behind Maren and Foreth. Elderly T'tawn and his bronze Torth, G'mar and brown Gherlath, a blue and his rider, two more greens, and another blue were the weyrlings' next teachers. Nira was absent for the lesson, leaving Maren to coordinate things.
"Alright. When I say your name, please go stand by your assigned teacher." She said, and began to read off the sheaf of paper.
"J'ren and Hauth, P'then and Rimth, please go to T'tawn and Torth.
Dreiya and Deamyth, T'ryk and Sowrith, to G'mar and Gherlath.
K'dan and Mournth, Lyonia and Joceth, with me, please.
A'ron and Oeth, Tasia and Chapeth, to R'cain and Rith" She nodded to one of the blue riders.
"W'lin and Bawtruth, Y'kar and Irith, to Torri and Minoth." She nodded to the female greenrider.
"E'ro and Rynkth, Arisa and Pellith, Andy and Lunth, to B'cob and Yillquith." She motioned a hand at the other blue rider.
"Tey and Kelth, Emilia and Aurath, E'vin and Nokth, to L'quin and Rainth." She waved a hand at the male greenrider, and waited while everyone made their way to their teachers.
"We're only going to go to the other side of the weyrbowl, over by the kitchens. Got that?" G'mar explained, looking closely at his weyrlings. "You must be airborne, at least four dragon lengths, before going between. This is for safety purposes. You and your bondeds must concentrate hard on the image of your destination. Be sure to account for any time that has elapsed, so you do not go between times. Today, you won't need to worry about that, but you need to remember it. You don't want to get lost in time, and end up facing yourself. We don't know what happens when you do.
Gherlath will send your dragons the location, from the proper angles that you'll need. Make sure you know it as well. Now, just to warn you, you can't feel anything between. Nothing but biting cold. You can only hear your dragon, not feel them, nor see them. You can only hear your dragon, that's it. But you must rely on him or her. They know what they're doing." G'mar paused, and Gherlath sent the image.
"Mount up, but wait for us to go first before following." G'mar climbed up onto Gherlath, strapped himself in, then the brown pushed himself into the air. He waited a moment, until everyone else was airborne, then they went between. He watched everyone come out as well, then guided them to the ground.
"You did good today. Now, please don't try going between to far places. Take it step by step. Practice with short distances, until you're confident in your abilities. If you are going to do a long distance jump, make sure you go to the place first, and memorize it. Fly straight." He looked them over, and smiled slightly. "You may all go for today. Don't forget to practice, Riders. You have graduated."
The other riders basically did and said the same.
